In good annual tradition of the knights of Băcău, members of Ordo Equstris Vini Europae, between 18-23.05.2026 was organized a trip to Portugal.
The main scientific aim of this wine-themed “El Camino” was to get to know the main wine-growing areas and the appropriate wine-making techniques. Of course, as secondary goals, but equally important for the organization, were also the strengthening of friendship and knowledge among members, the discovery of Portuguese art and culture, tourist destinations and culinary experiences associated with genuine sparkling or still, white, rose or red, dry or fortified (liqueur) wines.
This activity also had an ecumenical component that could have had at its center nothing other than the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, one of the world’s largest pilgrimage sites, visited annually by millions of people.
The riders got in touch with representatives of the Jose Maria Fonseca wineries (a family history that starts in 1834 and spans seven generations), followed by visits to Alma Solheira, Quinta da Bella, Quinta das Bageiras and others, exchanging ideas and experiences in nine wine destinations.
The tourism component also had a special highlight, a tasting of sparkling wines and local snacks in a memorable boat cruise on the Douro (Duero) river.
Five days full of interesting activities and beautiful moments, spent in a pleasant, truly chivalrous atmosphere.
