Romanian Wine Competition Featuring Indigenous Grape Varieties – Banat-Crișana-Maramureș Regional Round, August 22, 2026, Arad

At the Romanian Wine Competition for Indigenous Grape Varieties—Banat-Crișana-Maramureș Regional Round, organized by the Arad Knightly Chapter of the Ordo Equestris Vini Europae in partnership with ONVPV and the Arad Chamber of Commerce and Industry, 40 samples from 18 producers were entered, all with a single mission: to highlight the value of wines made from indigenous grape varieties produced in western Romania!

The competition evaluated the entries through blind tastings, using the OIV 100-point scoring sheet.

The winners who will represent the Banat-Crișana-Maramureș wine region at the national stage of the competition are:

WHITE WINES

First Place — Tarr Winery, Fetească Regală 2025
Second Place — Cramele Recaș, Fetească Albă 2025 “Found”
Third Place — Cramele Recaș, Fetească Regală 2025 “Sole Barrique”

Second Place — Wine Princess, Fetească Neagră 2023 “Stonewine”
Third Place — Elite Wine, Fetească Neagră & Cadarcă 2024 “Eclipse”

The podiums were dominated by Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Fetească Neagră, and Cadarcă—clear evidence of the potential and identity of Romanian wine made from indigenous grape varieties.

“We are delighted that the first edition of this regional phase has brought together leading producers and wines that showcase the value of Romania’s native grape varieties. For us, this competition is not just about rankings and medals, but about identity, tradition, and the ability of Romanian wine to make its mark through its own grape varieties.” (Consiliarius Octavian Andronic, Commander of the Arad Knightly Order).

Congratulations to all participants, and good luck to the winners at the national level!
