Sanctification of Grapes at Hamangia Wine Cellar

Every fall, the vine fulfills its purpose with ripening grapes. At Crama Hamangia, this moment is not only the beginning of the harvest and the winemaking process, but – more than that – a moment of gratitude for the gifts of the Dobrogean soil. A moment properly honored by organizing an event that has already become a local tradition. This year, on August 23, all the wine growers from Baia, as well as important guests from the local administration and the knights of wine, gathered at the winery.

P.S. Visarion, Bishop of Tulcea, assisted by a choir made up of priests from the parishes of Baia commune, celebrated a Mass of blessing of the grapes from which the new wine will be made.

Then, according to tradition, the first mustuary of the year was held. Young men in folk costumes brought freshly picked grapes and barefoot girls crushed them with their bare feet. This was followed by an artistic moment performed by the folk dance groups Pareia Luțeafirlu and Hamangia. After a tour of the winemaking process (wine processing, storage, bottling and storing), a country-style meal with traditional products, sprinkled with quality wines, accompanied by music and good cheer, concluded a successful event.

For the knights of wine present at this celebration of the vine and wine, the brother Consiliarius Ioan Bălan prepared a surprise: a knightly dinner in the vineyard, in the place called “la nuci”. The menu’s centerpieces were roasted wild quail and lamb on a skewer, well paired with wines from the Pagaia range. It was another occasion where friendship and brotherhood of chivalry were strengthened.
