At the invitation of the Hungarian confreres, a delegation of the Romanian Consulate of the OEVE, led by Vice-Consul Marius Farmazon, participated in Eger, on September 11-13, 2025, in the events of the annual knightly ceremony of accreditation of new members and induction in rank. The 13-strong Romanian delegation included the following dignitaries: Eques Drago\u0219 Danubianu, Legate 1 Bucovina, Consiliarius Doru Suciu-Copaciu, Legate 2 designated Silvania, Iudex Ion Urda, Cdt. S.C.Vi\u0219eu de Sus and Eques Bogdan At\u0103n\u0103soaie, Cdt. S.C.Suceava. <\/span><\/p>\n

On Thursday evening, to open our visit to Eger, after a sightseeing tour of the old town by tourist train, we visited the wine cellar of our confrere, wine knight Tam\u00e1s Sike, located in the Valley of the Beautiful Lady (Sz\u00e9passzonyv\u00f6lgy). We enjoyed a tasting of eight wines accompanied by a traditional cold platter. Tam\u00e1s Sike, winner of numerous awards, is one of the leading winemakers in the Eger wine region. <\/span><\/p>\n

Friday morning we took a guided tour of the former archiepiscopal cellar system in Eger. Then we visited the Eszterh\u00e1zy K\u00e1roly Catholic University, with its historic halls, as well as the halls where educational and research activities in viticulture and winemaking are carried out. The visit ended happily with a tasting of 3 wines from the Academy’s University Cellar. <\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday evening, we enjoyed a wine tasting dinner at the G\u00e1l Tibor Winery. The winery was founded in 1993 by G\u00e1l Tibor Senior, an internationally recognized oenologist and consultant in Italy and South Africa. In 1998 he was named “Winemaker of the Year”, and Wine Spectator placed his wine “Ornellaia” from Tuscany at the top of the top 100 wines. The family legacy is carried on by his son, G\u00e1l Tibor Jr. who was elected “Winemaker of Winemakers” in 2025. The program included a tour of the winery, a tasting of seven wines and an exquisite dinner at G\u00e1l Tibor F\u00fazi\u00f3’s restaurant. <\/span><\/p>\n

The knightly ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon in the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, considered one of the most beautiful buildings of Baroque church architecture.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festive dinner, hosted by the restaurant of the Eger & Park Complex, was distinguished by its special attire, by the refinement of the oenogastronomic and gastronomic combinations, but also by a special artistic musical program. <\/span><\/p>\n

Sincere congratulations to the Hungarian Consulate for this exceptional chivalrous event and thanks to the hosts for the warm welcome we all enjoyed.<\/span><\/p>\n
